Eating these mammals could be bittersweet -- their heads served up on sugary plaques -- but perhaps that’s the point behind Walteria Livings’ boxed chocolates ($49.50). Walteria’s set of three vanishing creatures depicts animals that, while once hunted as trophies, are -- today -- being wiped out due to the increased threat of deforestation. The set includes the extremely rare Pygmy hippopotamus, with only a few thousand remaining; the Koala, which numbered in the millions in the early 1900s - whose population hovers around 100,000; and the nearly extinct Mountain Gorilla whose numbers total close to 700. A portion of the chocolates benefit the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), the largest animal welfare organization in the world.
